# On-boarding and Managing Teachers, Students and Classes

We refer to the initial import of teachers, students and classes as on-boarding. We have several ways to on-board, which we will cover in more detail in the next sections.

When you do your first import, we create the class, teacher and student accounts. Teachers and students can login as soon as this process is finished.

Whichever method you use to on-board can also be used to update data, to capture movements between classes and new staff and students.

The first step to on-boarding is to identify your 'single source of truth' for your class roster data – ie, your classes and the teachers and students in those classes.

This may be Google Classroom, a student information system, or some other system which supports exports of that data.

You may also choose to allow teachers and students to register themselves using teacher and class (student) keys.

Instructions for all of these methods follow.

Any of the on-boarding options Literatu supports (Edval, Microsoft SDS, CSV etc) can be used to set up your Google or Microsoft O365 accounts. If any of the import formats require a password, simply include a strong dummy password – it will not be used to login.
