# Key-based Registration

If you already have an account registered in Literatu – maybe in another school or a trial community – you won't be able to use the same email address to register. 

If this is you, please login to your existing account and change the email in use there. If you can't remember your password, click 'I forgot my password' on the login screen.

To register a new account in Literatu, you will need a teacher or class registration key. 

If you don't have a **teacher** key, please see your literatu community administrator or a registered teacher and ask them to find the key using these instructions [Self-registering using Access Keys](/scribo-for-web/community/teacher-and-student-access-keys.md). If you have lost your **student (class)** key, please see your teacher. 

### Register an Account

1. Open a web browser and go to [www.literatu.com](http://www.literatu.com).
2. Click the '**Sign up**' button.
3. Click '**Join my school using a key**'. 
4. Click on Google or Microsoft to use your school Google or Microsoft O365 email address so you can take advantage of single sign-on.  That means Google or Microsoft manage your login to literatu so you don’t have to remember another password. If your school doesn’t use Google or Microsoft, you can register using your school email. 
5. If you don't use either of these, click Email.

| Sequence         | Action                                                                                                                                                                                               |
| ---------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Key              | Enter the teacher or student class key you have been provided                                                                                                                                        |
| Name             | Enter your name                                                                                                                                                                                      |
| Email            | Enter your school email address. You will receive an activation link to this email, so make sure you use the correct email.                                                                          |
| Password         | Enter a strong password of at least 8 characters / numbers.                                                                                                                                          |
| Agree            | Please make sure you read the terms of service. If you don't agree with them, you may cancel your registration at this point by simply closing the session.                                          |
| I am not a Robot | Make sure to click this if you are not a Robot :) We might ask you to identify pictures of cars, buses and so on, just to be sure.                                                                   |
| Signup           | Click the Signup button to complete the registration and trigger an **activation email**.                                                                                                            |
| Activation Email | **The activation email** should only take a minute or two to arrive. Please look out for this in your Inbox. If the email doesn't arrive, check your Spam folder – it can sometimes be routed there. |

**For teachers :** You are ready to add your first class using the guidance that will appear when you first login. Students can register using the class key that is generated at that point.
